Description
Isotonitazene (often referred to as “ISO” or “Toni”) is a highly potent synthetic opioid belonging to the 2-benzylbenzimidazole class, commonly known as nitazenes. It was first synthesized in the 1950s but never approved for medical use due to its high potency and safety concerns. Since emerging on the illicit drug market around 2019, it has been associated with numerous fatalities, often appearing as a replacement for, or adulterant in, heroin or fake prescription pills.
